The Journey

After traveling to Ghana in early 2026, Amira was connected with the lovely Angelina Azorko and her family. Hence the creation of “Carry The One”. However, the film you see today is only a fraction of the story. After battling extortion, insults, cultural differences, marginalization, and many other challenges, Carry The One is more than a film for Amira and the Azorko family — it is a spiritual odyssey that still continues.

Despite Amira leaving Ghana, her bond with the Azorko family has only gotten deeper. Ghana as a nation is still developing its resources for those with different abilities and currently, Raphael, Angelina’s son with cerebral palsy, needs help in getting what he needs to succeed. Consequently, Amira and Angelina have partnered to create a GoFundMe to help her son Raphael attend a school for children with different abilities in Ghana.

Carry The One TRailer, SYNOPSIS, next steps

She came to Ghana to see a woman carrying water. Instead, she found herself carrying a mission.

An African American college graduate crosses the Atlantic to Accra, Ghana, where she steps into the daily life of a woman who sells water on the streets—and, for a moment, the two exchange more than a story. They exchange worlds. What begins as an encounter with a stranger becomes a collision of assumptions, labor, womanhood, and survival, revealing something neither expected: sometimes the person we think we are observing is the one who sees us most clearly.
